Abstract
The qualitative detection of human chorionic gonadotropin in urine is one of the most widely used tests for the diagnosis of pregnancy.
The aim of the current study was to evaluate the three commercial immunoassay kits in general use, to determine which kit meets the requirements of sensitivity, performance characteristics necessary for the prompt diagnosis of pregnancy. Two hundred urine specimens were tested with three commercial enzyme immunoassay kits at the same time SureStep HCG pregnancy test; RAMP urine HCG assay; Clearview test.
And the following results are obtained.
1. Among the 200 urine specimens, all but one case showed the same result.
2. And among the result of these 199 cases, 54 positive and 145 were negative.
3. The only one case that showed discrepancy was negative in the RAMP assay and the
SureStep test and positive in the Clearview HCG test kit.
4. We performed serial dilution in 20 random urine specimens and the titer of those were
compared between the 3 kits, and all the results were same.
So, it was suggested that the sensitivity of the 3 commercial kits was equal to simlar. Thus for the screening purpose of pregnancy, either one of the 3 commercial kits would be appropriate.
